Paints: Made of finely ground pigment powder mixed with a drying oil to a buttery consistency.
Mediums: Used to thin the paint, alter its glossiness, or speed up/slow down drying. Common mediums include linseed oil for thickness and gloss, and Liquin or odourless mineral spirits for faster drying.
Supports: The most standard base is stretched linen or cotton canvas, primed with gesso to prevent the paint from soaking into the fibres.
